The qualification enables children’s services workers to operate at a qualified level in early childhood education and care, and graded assessment will assist with entry into early childhood degree courses. The qualification relates to workers in children’s services who are responsible for planning, implementing and managing programs in early childhood services, in accordance with licensing, accreditation and duty of care requirements.
At this level workers have responsibility for supervision of other staff and volunteers. In most states it is the highest qualification required at director or service manager level for children’s service centre-based care.
Diploma of Children’s Services (Early Childhood Education and Care CHC50908) graduates are eligible to work as a Child Care Worker, Team Leader, Authorized Supervisor, Children’s Advisor, Children’s Services Co-ordinator, Group Leader, and Child care trainer.
Graduates of the Diploma of Children’s Services may study further to gain higher qualifications in Children’s Services.
Satisfactory completion of at least 290 hrs of work placement is mandatory for the successful completion of the course. Students will be placed in Childcare centers at the end of Term 1. Where possible, the work placement will be designed in such a way that students will be able to complete (their all or majority) 290 hrs during the college term breaks. Students will continue to work at the centre in reduced hours to complete their remaining hours during the terms as well until they complete the majority of their
required 290 hours of work experience.
AICL organizes work placement for student at Childcare centers. The work placement will be unpaid and the daily working hours will be negotiated between students and the center.
AICL trainer/assessor will visit each center in regular basis during the work placement to assess student performance/progress as part of assessment of the practical components of the course. An AICL work placement logbook will be used to record the student progress. AICL Work placement logbook has a separate section for each competency where both work placement supervisor and the AICL trainer/assessor are to record their comments about student’s performance progress at the work placement.
Students must use AICL’s work placement attendance sheet and get initials from his/her work placement supervisor every day.
AICL will pay necessary costs relating to insurance cover for the work placement.
Delivery of this program has a focus on the development of professional knowledge and workplace skills. This course is designed for the concurrent development of theoretical knowledge and practical work skills. Students will be undertaking lectures and practical tutorials. The combination of knowledge and skills development undertaken concurrently provides for future competent performance in the workplace.
This course also includes 290 hours of compulsory work placement. AICL will place the entire students at various childcare centers.

Entry RequirementsEntry Requirements: To gain entry into CHC50908 Diploma of Children’s Services (Early
childhood education and care) candidates must demonstrate competence through a recognized
training program or recognition process, in the following 12 units of competency.
The following 12 units are covered in CHC30708 Certificate III in Children’s Services.
Completion of Certificate III in Children’s Services or equivalent and overall IELTS score of 5.5
or any other equivalent English language proficiently level is required to enroll in this course.

The emphasis of assessment is on collection of evidence, holistic assessment against the module purpose and trainer/assessor judgment. The focus is on the integration of areas of theoretical knowledge, practical skills and right work attitudes.
The following assessment methods will be used:
Normal learning and assessment will take place in an integrated classroom and real workplace environment.
