This qualification covers workers who use organization policies, procedures and individual children’s profiles to plan activities and provide care to children, facilitating their leisure and play and enabling them to achieve their developmental outcomes. Depending on the setting, workers may work under direct supervision or autonomously.

Satisfactory completion of at least 100 hrs of work placement is mandatory for the successful completion of the course. Students will be placed in Childcare centers at the end of Term 1.
Where possible, the work placement will be designed in such a way that students will be able to complete all or the majority of their 100 hrs during the college term breaks. Students will continue to work at the centre in reduced hours to complete their remaining hours during the terms as well until they complete the required 100 hours of work experience.
AICL organizes work placement for students at Childcare centers. The work placement will be unpaid and the daily working hours will be negotiated between students and the center.
An AICL trainer/assessor will visit each center on a regular basis during the work placement to assess student performance progress as part of assessment of the practical components of the course.
An AICL work placement logbook will be used to record the student’s progress. AICL Work placement logbook has a separate section for each competency where both work placement supervisor and the AICL trainer/assessor are to record their comments about the student’s performance progress at the work placement.
Students must use AICL’s work placement attendance sheet and get an initial from his/her work placement supervisor every day.
AICL will pay necessary costs relating to insurance cover for the work placement.
Delivery of this program has a focus on the development of professional knowledge and workplace skills. This course is designed for the concurrent development of theoretical knowledge and practical work skills. Students will be undertaking lectures and practical tutorials. The combination of knowledge and skills development undertaken concurrently provides for future competent performance in the workplace.

The emphasis of assessment is on collection of evidence, holistic assessment against the module purpose and trainer/assessor judgment. The focus is on the integration of areas of theoretical knowledge, practical skills and right work attitudes.
The following assessment methods will be used:
Normal learning and assessment will take place in an integrated classroom and real workplace environment.
